This morning Barga woke up to a very different city than the one we have been living in for the last five days. During the night the thermometers have moved from -10 to +10 . A 20 degree swing in less than 24 hours and it has been raining hard. The beauty of the last few days has gone, disappeared, just melted away as if it never existed.
So while the memory of all that snow is still fresh in our minds we would like to publish a couple more images showing the fun side of the snow. Snowmen and snowboarding down the Duomo steps and then a few more showing the opposite effect – the dismal drudge of clearing snow, trudging through half melted slush and the unfortunate aftermath of frozen pipes.
The plumbers in Barga have been busy this morning answering calls from distressed Barghiagiani some of whom woke up this morning to find their cantinas, in certain cases, bathrooms and even kitchens flooded by burst water pipes.
A nasty shock as well when the doors of the Teatro dei Differenti were opened to reveal the theatre literally ankle-deep in water.
All hands to the pump.
I wondered about frozen pipes….. During visits my keen eye noticed that -10 below temps must be rare in those parts given the plumbing and (lack of) insulation situation. A lot of other pipe problems will be become apparent come spring as well.
Thanks for the reports!
