Barga Vespa Club on the road
The newly formed Barga Vespa Club already has a membership into the hundreds in just the first few months of its formation here in Barga and the surrounding area. This morning they took to the roads for the 1st Giro del Territorio Barghigiano.
More than 70 vespa’s took part as they wound there way around the narrow lanes in the mountains above Barga. Calling in on Castelvecchio Pascoli, Fornaci di Barga, Tiglio, Renaio and Sommocolonia the whole tour took more than 5 hours to complete
Five hours ? seems like a long time … it could be done on foot in five hours quite easily ….. ah, but that is not taking into account the stops on the way to rest the aging vespas … breakfast at Franco’s bar in Barga Giardino, top up at Renaio, a couple of drinks maybe with Lorenzo at La Mocchia and a final spaghetti meal once again back in Barga.

[...] A contingent from the Barga Vespa Club were in evidence plus a group from Barga with a small mounted moped engine which when normally running produces long flames and very satisfying loud bangs from the exhaust when made to backfire, much to the delight of the gathered crowd but this year produced only smoke, a lot of noise and a couple of whimpers. They blamed the 1000 metere difference between Barga and San Pellegrino on the no show. [...]

- doggybag : Guest_4929; sorry but Daily Images has been closed for 10 days as O'Connor is on strike and demanding more money - we, of course will not bow down to that kind of threat. He is back up on line again this week. Be sure to check through Total Images 2008 «link» to catch up on those missing images

- Viviano : Bill Sheets and I reached a stunning conclusion this evening: At approximately $800 billion, the U.S. financial bail-out is equal to the cost of 250 glasses of wine at Aristdemo's Caffe for every man, woman and child on Earth. Bill agreed with me that Marino will need to hire at least one more barista to handle the crowd. We arrived at these figures over a glass of wine, needless to say. But I checked them on my calculator when I got home, and they add up.

- everyone : you will be sorely missed.
- W. Shakespeare : Lear? Not at all! Those words are lifted from Macbeth's soliloquy:"....L ife's but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more: it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing."
- Quentin Compson : Yes, Ma'am. It would be King Lear I believe, an allusion to the fool (and to Lear himself). But there is a more recent connection between Yokapatawpha and the Coldfields with a Biblical reference -- Absalom -- rather than the Shakespearean one to which you allude.
- poetry : Miss Coldfield, considered poetess laureate of Yoknapatawpha County, may simply be quoting Shakespeare, I do believe.
- Quentin Compson : Rosa: Stay in your own novel, please. You have no business in The Sound and the Fury, although I appear in both.
- Quentin Compson : Doggy, May I refer you to three sources on the Action-Theory dialectic? Albert Camus: "To do is to be." Jean-Paul Sartre: "To be is to do." Francis Albert Sinatra; "Do be do be doo." That should answer your question.
- Rosa Coldfield : ... it is a tale Told by and idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.
- doggybag : Quentin - your constant focus on ideas over deeds makes you a highly unreliable commentator- quite often it is difficult to tell which of the actions you are suggesting are mere figments of your imagination and which you really do think should be acted upon.
- Quentin Compson : Hey, you two ought to get together sometime.
- Rosa Coldfield : Why of course : )
- Thomas Sutpen : Miss Rosa knows very well who will merely endure, and who will ultimately prevail
- Rosa Coldfield : It is not entirely clear, however, who has been sorest lately or with whom ; )

Very cool! Does the Vespa Club sell those T-Shirts and sweatshirts to non-members? My daughter wants one (we tried to find AS Barga shirts, too, come to think of it).
ok dannyboy - I contacted the BargaVespaClub this morning -
all shirts are sold out at the moment but they are printing new ones - should be ready later on this week.
There will be BargaVespaClub club t-shirts which cost euro 15 and sweatshirts, euro 28.
If you become a member of the club (which will cost you only euro15) you will then be eligible for a discount on those prices.
You will of course have to add postage on those prices …so buying one would not be very sensible … so how about BargaVespaClub t-shirts for all the family ??
