Back in March of this year we published an article about the artist Richard Clare who was making paintings at night time in Barga Vecchia making use of just the ambient street lighting. (article here) In That article we wrote “He is now looking for a suitable place to exhibit these canvases before they are taken out of the country and split up.” Three months later and he has found that suitable place – this week the Richard Clare gallery and studio space in Piazza Angelio opened its doors to the public.
Well almost … a small problem with a misplaced key kept the door firmly shut for a number of days until an expert with a screwdriver solved the problem.
So welcome to what must be the smallest gallery in Barga Vecchia. Only 7 metres long and not even two metres wide – in fact if you stand in the middle with outstretched arms it is possible to touch both walls but size has little importance when it comes to quality and high quality there is to be found here.
The Richard Clare gallery and studio space can be found in Piazza Angelio (just behind the studio of Hamish Moore) and yes, even though space is a little cramped you will quite often find Richard working there on his drawings and paintings.
The images of the paintings "Barga at Night" can be seen in larger format on the flickr site here and the Richard Clare site can be seen here
