He was even there taking part in half of the events as he kept up a constant banter while he distributed bomboloni, (Italian doughnuts), water for the thirsty and wine – lots of wine – buckets of wine – for those who’s thirst was bordering on the biblical and at the end of the events – gold medals for the victors.
Out of the 15 pairs taking part, the winning team of Baldacci and Federico P beat them all hands down with a clear 1 second margin managing to cut the tree trunk in 21.05 seconds.
It would appear to be a golden week for the Baldacci family as Antonio’s gold medal this afternoon joins David Baldacci’s gold St.Christopher medal which was awarded to the American writer 5 days ago. (article here)
The team who took the longest – taking over a over a minute to cut through the log will NOT be named but just let it be known that one member of that team was wearing a short tie and appeared to be giving orders to some of his staff while he was (badly) sawing away with his team mate.
