Is something strange happening with music and being seated in Garfagnana or is it just a coincidence?
A couple of weeks ago at the Goran Bregović concert at the Fortezza di Montalfonzo just above Castelnuovo Garfagnana there was some fierce polemic, an outright shouting match and even a strange request from Bregović who stopped the music at one point and asked that the audience sit down and refrain from dancing (article here) This evening it was the other side of the coin when the BargaJazz Youth Orchestra played a concert as part of the Turnaround series in the main piazza in Castelnuovo.
The traffic was stopped from entering the piazza at 8pm and the musicians mounted the stage erected in the piazza to play but the chairs for the audience which were stacked behind the stage stayed exactly there … behind the stage … leaving the audience to stand in the piazza for a 2 hour concert. The reason being ?
Well, it would appear that there was permission granted to play the concert but not to a seated audience ??
Would somebody like to check up to see if that was what really happened or is this just an urban legend?
What ever, by the close of the concert there were only 30 or so people left standing the rest had long since drifted away to other far more comfortable areas … shame as the concert was once again the usual top quality big band jazz from the BargaJazz Youth Orchestra.
Special mention must be made of the new trumpet player on the back line of the orchestra – Debora Nardini. Finally a pretty and talented face standing next to Guzzoletti.
