The Barga Jazz Festival 2008 officially starts on Sunday but there have been a couple of Jazz events this weekend to “wet the palate” so to speak. Riccardo Arrighini yesterday in the Villa Moorings with his jazz music based around some of the arias from Puccini – (article here) and this evening in Piazza Angelio – the Kingston Youth Big Band from England.
A 25 piece Big Band made up of mainly young musicians who are on an 11 date tour in Italy this week – Barga being their first port of call. A rich repertoire ranging across jazz, ballroom and even film scores which kept the well filled piazza entertained on what was the first cool evening of this summer after a fierce rainstorm at the start of the day.
