For the very last time this year the weather managed to thrust a stick in to the wheel of traditional celebrations. Right through 2008, the bad weather had managed to disrupt so many outdoor events in Barga and it couldn’t resist the last chance to do it once more. This morning all was set up for some serious snow falls in this area but during the day the thermometer gradually rose and instead of some aesthetically pleasing snowscapes Barga was instead presented with dismal rain that gradually intensified as the magic midnight hour approached. The traditional spot overlooking Barga Vecchia up by the Duomo – the perfect place for launching rockets and other fireworks to celebrate the new year was more or less deserted at the hands on the clock gradually turned towards midnight.
This did not stop the celebration that were taking place inside though. Parties at The L’Osteria, and the Scacciaguai restaurant were in full swing, as were The Lake Angels party in the Hot Club in Piazza Angelio and the Soul and R+B evening at the Barga Jazz Club.
Wishing that we were there… just took a ‘walk around the block’ here in Rockland Maine.. -11.2c but much colder with the wind chill…. not yet mid-night here… happy New year!!!! Buon Capodanno!!!!….Felice Anno Nuovo!!!!!
