In the very last closing minutes of the Sereni Administration here in Barga, the outgoing Mayor Umberto Sereni managed to ignite fierce polemic and entrenched contrasting opinon that is just about to launch on a national level. Already one or two national newspapers are picking up the story and the internet forums in Italy are all buzzing with the news that Umberto Sereni sent a leaflet through the post advising children that if a man telephones them and claims to be “Papi” – “Daddy” then they should call the Carabinieri straight away. A not so veiled attack on Silvo Berlusconi.
The teenage lingerie model whose birthday party appears to have precipitated the divorce of Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister, has said she wants to stand for parliament.
“Papi [Daddy] Silvio will fix it,” declared Noemi Letizia, in an interview with The Times
Letizia said of Berlusconi, 72: “Papi brought me up. He’s always been kind to me. One year he gave me a little diamond; another time, a small necklace.” For her birthday two weeks ago he gave her a gold necklace and pendant studded with diamonds.
“I adore him,” she told La Repubblica newspaper. “He calls me, he tells me he has some free time and I join him in Milan or Rome. I stay there listening to him. That’s what he wants from me. Then we sing together.” The prime minister also told her dirty jokes.
Asked whether she hoped to stand in forthcoming regional elections, she replied: “No. I’d prefer to stand for the lower house of parliament. Papi Silvio will fix it.”
Television presenters, actresses and showgirls who were regular guests at Silvio Berlusconi’s Sardinian villa have said that they called him Papi, or Daddy, as a codename in case their telephones were being tapped, according to the first accounts from guests at the infamous New Year party.
As supporters of Mr Berlusconi continue to fight back over his controversial relationship with the aspiring model Noemi Letizia, 18, more details emerged of photographs taken of parties at Villa Certosa over several months, some said to feature topless women
