Tom Harrell and Dado Moroni

Standing room only at the Teatro dei Differenti this evening for what, without a doubt, was technically the best and for many people, the most moving concert of the year by the American trumpeter Tom Harrell and the pianist from Genova, Dado Moroni. This years Barga jazz festival is dedicated to the music of Tom Harrell so all this week there will be his music being played but tonight it was a chance to hear the man himself as he played a memorable concert with long time musical collaborator Dado Moroni. They told their stories simply, authentically. They sing their innermost being using so-called ‘mainstream’ language … but in the end this is not important. What counts is the profound rapport there is between the two musicians.

Un successo che ha superato le aspettative, con il pubblico incantato dalle note e dalla sintonia tra i due grandi musicisti sul palco, che per circa due ore hanno esibito la loro tecnica e la loro indiscussa personalità artistica. Dado Moroni ha offerto una delle sue più brillanti performances dipingendo a Tom Harrell la tela per le sue invenzioni alla tromba, tenendo con il fiato sospeso il pubblico che non ha saputo trattenere gli applausi tra un passaggio e l’altro.

Da stasera a sabato i concerti si terranno al Teatro dei Differenti, e avranno come protagonista il grande trombettista americano Tom Harrell, al quale è dedicata questa edizione del festival, e l’ormai storica e travolgente Orchestra BargaJazz diretta dal Maestro Bruno Tommaso.

Mercoledì 26 l’attesissimo concerto dell’eccezionale duo di Tom Harrel col pianista Dado Moroni.
Giovedì 27 l’Orchestra presenterà i brani originali della sezione B e C del concorso; ospite della serata il trombettista Marco Tamburini, già componente dell’Orchestra e amatissimo dal pubblico barghigiano.

Venerdì 28 l’Orchestra suonerà con Tom Harrell gli arrangiamenti di musiche dello stesso trombettista.

Dado Moroni was born in Genoa, Italy, on October 20, 1962. He has been playing the piano professionally since the age of 14 and has come to be regarded as one of the finest European jazz pianists. He has toured and recorded extensively with many of the finest contemporary American and European jazz musicians. In 1987 he was one of the judges for the First Thelonious Monk Piano Jazz Competition at the Smithsonian Institute. INSIGHTS is the 26th LP/CD on which Dado has appeared. Among the many musicians with whom he has recorded are Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Ed Thigpen, Ron Carter, Grady Tate, George Robert, Tom Harrell, Lee Konitz, Al Grey, Lewis Nash, Ray Brown and Reggie Johnson.
