A painting that has been away from Barga for a considerable time while it was being restored finally came back to it’s rightful place – on the wall of the chapel in the San Francesco church. The small painting on wood of a Madonna and child was probably painted by Pietro da Talada – a minor 15th-century painter was also known as The Maestro di Borsigliana and who was an exponent of the International Gothic style during the early 1400’s.
The Bishop of Pisa, Giovanni Paolo Benotto was there to celebrate mass before the painting was revealed to the waiting faithful. There then followed a presentation of the work by Dott.sa Antonia d’Aniello and the restorer Chiara Carrara.
