Barga prepares itself for the coming summer season. Today is a national holiday in Italy but workers were out this morning preparing yet more places in Barga Vecchia to accommodate the expected summer visitors to the city.
The ever resourceful Paolo Gas had a team of workers building a large, 6 x 4 square metres, structure on the Fosso which will allow him to serve seated customers outside his bar.
Talking with him this morning he also spoke about the possibility of using the structure for musical concerts during the summer months. More details on that when we get them.
Inside the castle in Piazza Angelio, the wine shop of John Moscardini is now also sporting a new wooden covered area with tables and chairs for his customers to sit down in comfort and enjoy his selection of good wines.
His name is actually Paolo Marchetti but he is known throughout the territory as “Paolo Gas”as he was the guy coming round in his Ape delivering the gas cylinders so that people could cook and heat their houses in the era sandwiched between the time when wood was used and the arrival of piped gas. Today he has changed job and opens up the Bar Paolo Gas in the Fosso just outside the main walls and gates of Barga Vecchia. – article here
