Last week there was that huge thunderstorm which dropped more than 40 mms of rain on Barga in an hour. One of those fierce summer storms which occasionally come suddenly, swiftly and unannounced out of a blue sky with guttering, pipes and drains struggling to contain the flood of water.
Hey folks, this is the first week in August remember ? What’s with all that rain ? Then if that was not enough, today the skies darkened once more and a bloody curdling end of the world thunderstorm crashed over Barga and this time it unleashed not just an inordinately large quantity of rain on the city but hailstones … lots of them and large.
All todays events up at Sommocolonia were cancelled and the Alpini in their restored chapel, the Chiesina of the Alpini had torrential rain during their whole service, which only relented just as the congregation moved outside, allowing the sun to break through the low clouds and a dazzling rainbow to arch over the whole scene. Thirty minutes later it was once more pouring again.
All in all – horrible, horrible weather.
The worst of it will probably be in the morning when somebody will have to go down to the barganews vegetable garden to check up on just what kind of damage has been done down there. Hailstones can do a lot of damage. Cross your fingers please.
