The Annual Lake Angels pyramid fire took place in Piazza Angelio this afternoon. The Lake Angels have always been creative in their methods of raising money for Rwanda. They started a tradition last year with a new charity event and as usual there was a touch of ” something new” running right through the middle of it – in fact right in the centre of it. A small wooden model appeared in a Aristo’s bar, made up of tiny wooden logs in a pyramid shape. This was going to be the shape of the new bonfire set up in the middle of Palazzo Angelio to warm the people at the Lake Angels Christmas tombola.
The polemic and arguments about the dangers of what appeared to be a huge 3 m tall fire in the middle of Piazza went on daily for weeks with people taking sides on the dangers or not of this endeavour.
The Lake Angels smiled sweetly and just carried on.
When it was built it turned out to be a good deal smaller than expected but still a quite large wooden pyramid was set up in the middle of the piazza.
The innovation came not just from the shape but also the position of where the fire was started – not at the base but at the top. The fire then gradually burnt down into the pyramid, the logs falling inwards and absolutely no need for any stoking or attention whatsoever.

This year it is was back and burning as usual to keep the sub zero temperatures at bay (helped along by copious quantities if vino brule)

The Lake Angels get a hand lighting their fire from the one and only Minimalist Santa visiting Barga for the first time this year.
