Chairart 2011, first meeting in Treppignana

During 2010 we published a series of articles about Chairart 2010 – 20 white chairs and the 20 possibilities to decorate the chairs by 20 different people. Finally at the end of the summer the travelling show arrived in Barga and obviously it was well worth waiting for as the Chairart exhibition in Barga Vecchia was visited by more people than any other exhibition that year and there is a good chance that the chairs were the most photographed objects in the city that summer.

There was some talk of organising an auction for the chairs of Chairart 2010 but at the end of the event all but one artist picked up their chairs and took them home so it looked as though most of the artists could not part with their works of art after all.

Instead what happened was Chairart 2011, with a new group of artists painting chairs and the artists who participated in the first event now being presented with another object to decorate – this time, a window.

The coordinator to the event is once again Martin Galloway.  This afternoon in Treppignana, the first grouping of the new Chairart 2011 took place with 20 new chairs being seen for the first time plus at least half of the windows arriving while the photographer was there, maybe more arrived once he had left the village.

Questa mostra e nata con lo scopo di coinvolgere il lavoro di artisti e amici, alcuni dei quali non credevano di avere la capacita e di partecipare a mostre con le loro opera. L’oggetto dell’esposizione, la sedia, e stato scelto inoltre come strumento di espessione creativa per coinvolgere une fetta piu ampia delle populazione, che trova talvolta l’arte contemporanea un po’ sconcertante, attreverso l’utilizzo di un oggetto umile e comune alla vita di ognuno.

Un obiettivo di questo mostra quindi e quello di incoraggiare a una participazione sempre maggiore e un coinvolgimento nel mondo dell’arte e i particolare la riscoperta di un’arte che ha per oggetto piccoli elementi della communita in cui viviamo.

Noi speriamo che questo mostra “Chairart” (arte della sedia) sia un primo passo verso la creazione di una serie di successive iniziative che seguano dei principi simili a quelli di questa esposizione. Altri temi sono gia stati presi in considerazione per esposizione future con la speranza di trovare un sempre maggior numero di artisti.
