It would seem that the public is once again flocking to the monthly market, the Mercatino dell’antiquariato e dell’artigianato in Barga.
Earlier on this year it looked as though the market was in a definite decline with falling attendance figures both from the market stall holders and the buying public.
In February there were only three main stalls outside the main gate, nothing inside the walls of Barga Vecchia and only a few people wandering round.
It was a dismal affair and it then looked as though the monthly markets had come to a grinding halt.
The main blame could be put fairly and squarely on the terrible weather that month with biting northerly winds and sub zero temperatures keeping people inside in the warm.
In March, things started to brighten up and as we reported then (article here) the weather made a huge difference as bright sunshine and a perfect spring day meant that the crowds poured into the city once again.
This month that process continued and more stalls could be found showing a vast variety of good on display both inside and outside the main city walls.
forgot to mention that there were no stalls on Easter Sunday despite what was advertised on the Town Hall posters !
I didn’t forget – it was cancelled early Easter Sunday morning due to the bad weather
ok thanks sorry for the misunderstanding !
