According to our resident weather expert, David Sesto, the weather it’s just about to change either today or tomorrow and it looks as though the autumn is nearly upon us.
In fact the signs are already there – the vendemmia, grape harvest has already started in one of two vineyards around the city (article here) , the porcini mushrooms, the local delicacy that grows wild up in the mountains are being brought down each day and the fragrance of porcini mushrooms is making itself felt right through the Barga Vecchia, there is an abundant crop of blackberries just sitting out there on the briar’s all ready to be picked ( that is anybody still does that these days ?) plus this afternoon and then was the unmistakable sign that the summer is over – the sight and sound of chimney sweeps perched on top of the red tile roofs in Barga Vecchia busily ramming their long ungainly brushes down into the chimneys.
If it wasn’t for the fact that they were using cellphones to communicate with each other when the wire brush had arrived at the bottom of the chimney, could have been a scene from any past century.
Some things change, others don’t and the seasons keep on turning.[dw-post-more level=”1″]
