For the second time in ten days torrential rain which fell on this area over the last 24 hours is starting to have an effect on the Serchio river at the bottom of the valley with a dramatic increase in water flow surging down the valley to the sea.
115 mm of rain fell on Barga, 131 mm of rain fell on Gallicano, 118mm at Ponte di Campia, 159 mm at Casone di Profecchia, 140at Vagli di Sotto and a whopping 286 mm in Campagrina.
As can be plainly seen in the video, the Serchio river was this morning a deep muddy colour and moving at a very fast pace through the valley.
The sound of the thundering water could be heard a good distance away from the river and in the background a sound which is not heard that often – a crunching, grumbling rumbling sound which was the rocks on the riverbed being rolled along by the force of the water.
This evening the water level had receded somewhat and all eyes are now on the weather forecast for the next couple of days.
Is there going to be more rain ?
We will have two wait and see what David Sesto our resident weather expert has to say on the matter – (article here)

Un miglioramento interverrà, in modo più deciso, solo nel pomeriggio di lunedì.[dw-post-more level=”1″]
