A good part of Barga was without electricity yesterday afternoon as the heavy downpour of the last couple of days managed to infiltrate the roof of the electricity sub station in Barga Vecchia, shorting out some of the components inside.
The team of technicians from ENEL, the power company started work to repair the damage but some areas of Barga Giardino were without power for an hour and the unlucky residents of Barga Vecchia had to wait nearly 4 hours before power was restored.
There was a good deal of comments passed in the piazza when it was discovered that the problem was probably in the semi derelict substation, which most residents had assumed was abandoned – sections of the roof having falling in and a large sign outside on the gate warning people to stay away as it was dangerous.

Apparently, it had not been totally abandoned as a room just to the left of the main gate was still being used by ENEL but according to eye witnesses on the scene, the roof was not able to keep the heavy downpour at bay.
