Most people’s eyes this evening were pointed at the musicians preparing their instruments for the start of tonights Live In Barga ( aka Le Piazzette ) concerts but if anybody had lifted their eyes upwards they might have seen an unusual sight – a couple of climbers scaling down the face of the Duomo bell tower.
As you can hear in the interview recorded just 10 minutes ago at the top of the Duomo, the two climbers were there to remove a plant which had been growing on the side of the tower and was starting to become a possible hazard as the roots dug into the centuries old stone work.
The experts on hand were not sure how the plant managed to get to such a high position, it could have been wind of birds moving seeds but either way, it had to go.
