Almost three years ago in November 2010 we published an article which included a video of a local school at Fornaci di Barga being blown up by high explosives (article here) as it was unsafe and did not come up to earthquake standards. It was then used as a training ground for an international exercise on earthquake damage control – EU Terex 2010 – Tuscany Earthquake Relief Exercise (article here)
The purpose of that exercise was to enhance the effectiveness in response to the disaster by testing models of intervention in order to reduce time to deployment of SAR teams in Europe, and accelerate decision-making at central and local level and at European level.
This week a new school was re-opened on the site.
