Well we might have been a little smug when all our hard work on our water management paid off in the storm, but one of the things that we are prone to here at Sensone is the wind. And today it looks as if a bomb has been dropped on our terrace.
The changing colour of the leaves on the tree has been late this year due to the exceptionally warm conditions and we were just getting to watch the colours creep up the mountain, until today – WHAM! The winds took over. As I looked out on the carnage I could see over on the mountainside a tree fall gracefully to the forest floor, the firecracker noise following shortly after. It was as if the sound didn’t belong to the falling of the tree but I knew it was, the wind must have carried the sound as there was definitely a short delay.
We were all snug as bugs in rugs in the house. It took us a few attempts to light the fire as we couldn’t get it to draw, but once it did we knew we weren’t going to feel the chill of the nine to eleven mile per hour winds, and even the ice drops that fell from the sky couldn’t chill our bones. But when I ventured outside to check on Coco (the pony) who, bless him was weathering the storm in style, the cold hit home, knowing it only had this one chance it hit, hard and cold.
Now all I wanted to do was run back in the house but there were the chickens to be fed and let out it was a mad sprint across the back yard the wind taking every chance to bite into any exposed flesh! I was now cold. As I entered the house I said a little prayer, hoping the horses lower down weren’t being exposed to such extreme conditions I would check on them later.
Today would have been Richard’s Mums birthday so Happy Birthday Mum we both miss and love you so much. Both of our lives have been so enriched by your beautiful presence and we know that you continue to look over us. The spiritual path that we walk is in your honour, for me you opened many doors giving me confidence to search and open my heart, whilst learning to listen to that inner intuition that drives me forward through each day and each challenge that comes along. We love you Mumxxxx
Richard was working hard on his new business, I hardly see him these days, with his head always in the computer. It’s either the business or a new on line woman. I plumb for the business, I know he is working really hard to get this moving, working closely with his English company to push the product forward. I know that we couldn’t live up here without the connection, and even in these high winds we still have live and fast internet services – thank goodness.
Living out in the wild is fine but there are many modern day comforts that we just cannot do without. I have to be warm, so thankfully the forest provides us with ample wood to keep the house warm throughout the winter, this year we think we have been really organised with the woodshed stacked to the brim.
The internet is our only form of communication, it is our phone lines (although we do have mobile phones for emergencies but then they don’t always work up here), it enables us both to work from Sensone with fast connection throughout the world, it is our entertainment I love watching “catch up TV (English of course)”, not to mention our skype calls to the family when we can see how they are all doing. For us we couldn’t live here without it.
Our house has stood on these grounds for many years and offers us protection and security even when she is battered and bruised by these brutal storms. Many a night we lay awake watching the storm play out its role, sometimes below us and sometimes right above us, but always we feel safe and protected within our four walls.
So providing I have been organised and have plenty of food provisions we can always ride the storm. Today was no exception and thankfully when we went down to the horses, a) it was much less windy there and b) they had weathered the storm without a care in the world. So I had worried unnecessarily.
So not a lot of work was accomplished but it was nice to stay in and enjoy the house for a change.
