Sharp eyed observers on the site might have noticed that over the last few days there have been a couple of updates to the service.
Maybe it should be remembered that this site has been online since 1996 and over those 18 years there have been a huge amount of changes on barganews and over the internet as a whole as things have got faster (and larger) but one thing has remained more or less static over most of that time was the webcam facing out due north across Barga up to Sommocolonia.
The actual WebCam itself has been changed two or three times over the intervening years as the extreme changes of weather from the summer to the winter took its toll on the hardware but the software which has been pushing out an image every 30 seconds has remained the same for all of that time and was actually the first third-party software bought for the site all those years ago.
This week we’ve finally updated the hardware and software and brought the barganews webcam kicking and screaming into the modern age.

To celebrate the fact that people can now watch high-definition images of Barga 24 hours a day, we decided to run a little experiment. We captured an image every 10 seconds from the webcam and compressed them into a small two minute video showing just what the weather was like over a 24-hour period yesterday the 17th October 2014.
The movement of cloud formation and mist backwards and forwards through the valley and up into the mountains, the occasional flashes of sunlight running across the splendid autumn colours of the trees and the capture of at least three rainbows that appeared and disappeared throughout the day turns what was just a simple experiment into something almost poetic
