One swallow does not make a spring

nor does one fine day - Aristotle

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

An allusion to the return of migrating swallows at the start of the spring season – One instance of an event (such as the arrival of a single bird) does not necessarily indicate a trend

From a remark by Aristotle (384 BCE – 322 BCE): “One swallow does not a spring make, nor one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy.”

BUT this afternoon flying round the Duomo in Barga Vecchia were not one but two swallows enjoying the bright sunshine.

Today is the 25th January …January not March or April ….. what is going on ?
