Candice Badiali Gairns is the eldest granddaughter of Dorando Badiali and his wife Renata Rocchiccioli, well known faces in the Barga area for many years, returning regularly to their beloved Sommocolonia from their home in Troon, Scotland. Unfortunately, Dorando died on 14th October 2019 not long before his 98th birthday but he will be always be remembered by many, both in Italy and Scotland, as he was such a character.
Candice wrote her original book Nonno’s Garden purely as a gift for her nephew Auren’s first birthday in October (her sister Nicola’s first child) so he can learn Italian. It is a tribute to their Grandpa, Dorando, as he loved his garden in Troon and his family and friends will, I’m sure, remember his fruit trees, greenhouse full of vegetables and borders of rosemary and sage…all of which have a place in the book.
On receiving the printed version she decided to investigate getting the book published. She has recently self-published this book through Amazon and has written further books in the series.
Candice has written and illustrated each of the books which are designed to teach children from 0-8 years their first words in Italian as she is passionate about passing down the language to future generations.
She has also now created versions of each book which teach Italian children their first words in English.

Candice Badiali Gairns è la nipote maggiore di Dorando Badiali e di sua moglie Renata Rocchiccioli, volti noti del barghiano da molti anni, che tornano regolarmente nella loro amata Sommocolonia dalla loro casa di Troon, in Scozia. Sfortunatamente, Dorando è morto il 14 ottobre 2019 non molto prima del suo 98esimo compleanno ma sarà sempre ricordato da molti, sia in Italia che in Scozia, perché era un personaggio eccezionale.
Candice ha scritto il suo libro originale Il giardino del nonno esclusivamente come regalo per il primo compleanno di suo nipote Auren in ottobre (il primo figlio di sua sorella Nicola) in modo che possa imparare l’italiano.
È un omaggio al loro nonno, Dorando, perché amava il suo giardino a Troon e la sua famiglia e i suoi amici, ne sono sicuro, ricorderanno i suoi alberi da frutto, la serra piena di verdure e le bordure di rosmarino e salvia… tutti con un posto nel libro.
Dopo aver ricevuto la versione stampata ha deciso di indagare sulla pubblicazione del libro. Recentemente ha autopubblicato questo libro tramite Amazon e ha scritto altri libri della serie. Candice ha scritto e illustrato ciascuno dei libri progettati per insegnare ai bambini da 0 a 8 anni le prime parole in italiano poiché è appassionata di tramandare la lingua alle generazioni future. Ora ha anche creato versioni di ciascun libro che insegnano ai bambini italiani le prime parole in inglese.
