Funeral of Angelo Pellegrini “Beara”

This afternoon was the funeral of Angelo Pellegrini in Barga Vecchia of great enthusiast of the history of Barga and Barga itself, known to all as “Beara”.

Thanks to his photographs and the exhibitions (often with Antonio Nardini) he narrated many beautiful pages of Barga’s history, dedicating all his love to Barga during his long life, which lasted 90 years.

The Barga section of the Lucchese Historical Institute wants to remember its honorary member Angelo Pellegrini. We had met him just over a month ago, precisely to announce his appointment and to present him with a parchment. An appointment well deserved for all the love and commitment that Angelo has shown over the years for Barga and its history.

Angelo was originally from Bagnaiolo, but in every sense, he was a adopted native of Barga. History for him was a real job, after that of a painter. Passionate about photography and author of numerous shots, Angelo put his skills as a photographer and historian at the service of the Lucchese Historical Institute. He was long a part of the association’s board and worked on many initiatives, starting from the memorable exhibitions realized in collaboration with Antonio Nardini (to name a few: “Barga with Florence, cradle of the Renaissance”, “Food in the poems and prose of Giovanni Pascoli”, “Along the Auser”, “Under the big tree and surroundings”). The last one, “Four little churches in the history of Barga”, he had realized in 2019 with Simone Paolo Figlia. His exhibitions usually found a home during the summer at the Church of the Crucifix, a place to which he was very attached and of which he was long the custodian with his wife Liliana.
However, Angelo’s passion for Barga and its history was not limited to initiatives, but found its main outlet in conversations with friends armed with the same passion, with whom Angelo never failed to share his memories, impressions, and hopes.
Goodbye Angelo. We will miss you. It comforts us to know that you are once again together with your Liliana and the friends with whom you will continue to discuss your love for Barga. – The Barga section of the Lucchese Historical Institute
