Rene – exhibition in Barga Vecchia

Barga is of course known as Barga art city due to its bustling cultural and artistic life. It has to be said that the bustling cultural life generally takes place when the warm weather is here. During the winter the city wears a slightly different face but for the moment the sun is out, the swallows a diving around in a ridiculously blue sky and the visual arts are booming.

As usual during July and August there is a waiting list for artists wanting to show their work to the public in the various communal gallery spaces.

But one artist who has exhibited his work for many years in the city (article and more images here) has neatly sidestepped the problem and each year exhibits his work in a private gallery.

Visitors to the city can see this artist working as his studio/ atelier is completely open to the public right through the day

A decade ago we tried to interview Rene about what brought him up from the south of Italy to work in this area and just what it is that fascinates him so much with the Barga landscape but Rene is a man of few words when it comes to talking about his own work.

As he says he is a painter and not a writer or an actor and so the painting should speak for him.

Barga è naturalmente conosciuta come la città dell’arte di Barga grazie alla sua vivace vita culturale e artistica. Va detto che la vivace vita culturale si svolge generalmente quando arriva il bel tempo. Durante l’inverno la città assume un volto leggermente diverso, ma per il momento il sole splende, le rondini volano in un cielo incredibilmente azzurro e le arti visive sono in pieno boom.

Come al solito, durante luglio e agosto c’è una lista d’attesa per gli artisti che vogliono mostrare il loro lavoro al pubblico nei vari spazi espositivi comunali.

Ma un artista che ha esposto le sue opere per molti anni nella città (articolo e altre immagini qui) ha abilmente evitato il problema e ogni anno espone le sue opere in una galleria privata.

I visitatori della città possono vedere questo artista al lavoro, poiché il suo studio/atelier è completamente aperto al pubblico durante tutto il giorno.

Un decennio fa abbiamo cercato di intervistare René su ciò che lo ha portato dal sud Italia a lavorare in questa zona e su cosa lo affascina tanto del paesaggio di Barga, ma René è un uomo di poche parole quando si tratta di parlare del suo lavoro. Come dice lui, è un pittore e non uno scrittore o un attore, quindi la pittura dovrebbe parlare per lui.
