Eddie Henderson Quartet in Barga
With three days still to run at BargaJazz Festival 2025, the guest of honour was American trumpeter Eddie Henderson, who performed with his quartet on Thursday, 21 August. He was joined by Bruce Barth (piano), Roz MacDonald (double bass) and Alfred Kramer (drums).
Over his career, Henderson collaborated with leading jazz figures such as Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin, Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Joe Henderson, Max Roach, Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon and Roy Haynes.
A pivotal chapter was his work with Herbie Hancock: from 1970 to 1973 he played in Hancock’s Mwandishi band, recording his debut albums, Realization (1972) and Inside Out (1973). He taught at the Juilliard School of Music from 2007 to 2016 and joined the jazz department at Oberlin University in 2014, where he was promoted to full professor in 2023. The documentary Doctor Eddie Henderson: Uncommon Genius was broadcast by multiple networks and shown at film festivals from February 2024.

Quartetto di Eddie Henderson a Barga
Con tre giorni ancora da svolgersi al BargaJazz Festival 2025, l’ospite d’onore è stato il trombettista statunitense Eddie Henderson, che si è esibito con il suo quartetto giovedì 21 agosto. Con lui Bruce Barth (pianoforte), Roz MacDonald (contrabbasso) e Alfred Kramer (batteria).
Nel corso della sua carriera, Henderson ha collaborato con importanti figure del jazz come Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin, Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Joe Henderson, Max Roach, Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon e Roy Haynes.
Un capitolo decisivo fu il lavoro con Herbie Hancock: dal 1970 al 1973 suonò nella band Mwandishi, incidendo i suoi album d’esordio, Realization (1972) e Inside Out (1973).
Come docente ha insegnato alla Juilliard School of Music dal 2007 al 2016 ed è entrato nel dipartimento di jazz della Oberlin University nel 2014, dove è stato promosso professore ordinario nel 2023.
Il documentario Doctor Eddie Henderson: Uncommon Genius è stato trasmesso da diverse emittenti ed è stato proiettato in vari festival cinematografici a partire da febbraio 2024.
