Ten years on from its initial exhibit in Barga, Lori has been showcasing a condensed collection of her project “Ship to Ship, Ship to Shore” at the Nomads’ Coffee Shop in Paisley, Scotland.
A photographic research project portraying the history and connections of the Scots-Italians to the west of Scotland exploring themes of identity and family loyalty. The exhibit includes portraits of people who live in Barga, photographs of the small settlement brimming with character and stories of their connection to the most Scottish town in Italy.
Lori started photography in 2014 during a research project at university. She taught herself the basics whilst living in Italy for a few months interviewing residents of Barga and their connections to the West of Scotland. She used that time taking photographs of the city, its history and surrounding cities to document her time there.
The photographs ended up becoming the main part of her project alongside interview excerpts and resulted in two solo exhibitions, one in Barga, Italy, where the mayor officially opened the doors, and one in Paisley, Scotland. Lori Isabella McColl Photography –

Dieci anni dopo la sua prima esposizione a Barga, Lori presenta una versione ridotta del suo progetto “Ship to Ship, Ship to Shore” al Nomads’ Coffee Shop di Paisley, in Scozia. Un progetto di ricerca fotografica che racconta la storia e i legami degli Italo-Scots dell’ovest della Scozia, esplorando i temi dell’identità e della lealtà familiare.
L’esposizione comprende ritratti di persone che vivono a Barga,fotografie della piccola città ricca di carattere e di storie che testimoniano il suo legame con “la città più scozzese d’Italia”.
Lori ha iniziato a dedicarsi alla fotografia nel 2014, durante un progetto di ricerca universitaria. Ha imparato da autodidatta le basi della fotografia mentre viveva per alcuni mesi in Italia, intervistando i residenti di Barga e indagando i loro legami con l’ovest della Scozia.
In quel periodo ha scattato fotografie della città, della sua storia e dei luoghi circostanti per documentare la sua esperienza. Le immagini sono poi diventate la parte principale del progetto, accompagnate da estratti delle interviste, e hanno portato a due mostre personali: una a Barga, inaugurata ufficialmente dal sindaco, e una a Paisley, in Scozia.
