Well it took more than 2 years of searching, finding, attempting to buy and then for one reason or another, the deal not coming to a positive conclusion and then finally signing on the dotted line – but then another 18 months of construction, building, renovating, solving problems with encroaching damp and interesting foundations but this afternoon an extremely happy group from the Gatti Randagi Football Club officially opened their own Gatti Randagi FC base in Barga Vecchia.
Situated under the Cafe Capretz, facing the Galleria Comunale and with the Caffetteria La Volta just next door, the space from the outside seems just a tiny cantina but once they opened the door it was revealed to be an extremely large area contains multiple rooms.

What started as a group of friends who were interested in football and motorbikes and gradually turned into a very successful and flourishing amateur football team and social club and now they have just tipped the game another notch.

Gatti Randagi
The year 1991 will certainly have been a year where many things have happened, but for us it was the year in which the legendary “Gatti Randagi” were born. A little boredom to play in the various minor categories (few), but above all the desire and passion of others, pushed a group of friends from Barga to found this football team.
Legend has it that the name was chosen at the last moment during the journey to register for the UISP championship in Pieve Fosciana, many try to grab the merit or the misfortune of this choice, but among the various ones, the most accredited is the one that attributes this initiative to two historical founders … friends Roberto Conti and Maurizio Poli.
The choice of the white and green social colours with horizontal bands is instead sought in the sympathy that most of the founders, as well as the current players, have towards the CELTIC GLASGOW team, so the suit is and will remain green and white as long as the Gatti Randagi exist.
This sympathy for a Scottish team is perhaps to be sought in the history of Barga, that is, in the close link between our city and Scotland, a nation that has welcomed many of our emigrants in difficult years for us.

Ebbene, ci sono voluti più di due anni di ricerche, di spazi individuati, di tentativi di acquisto e poi, per un motivo o per l’altro, di trattative che non sono arrivate a una conclusione positiva, fino a quando finalmente si è firmato sulla linea tratteggiata – ma a questo sono seguiti altri 18 mesi di lavori: costruzione, ristrutturazione, risoluzione dei problemi di umidità di risalita e di fondamenta “interessanti”. Eppure, questo pomeriggio, un gruppo estremamente felice dei Gatti Randagi Football Club ha inaugurato ufficialmente la propria sede dei Gatti Randagi FC a Barga Vecchia.
Situato sotto il Caffè Capretz, di fronte alla Galleria Comunale e con la Caffetteria La Volta proprio accanto, dall’esterno lo spazio sembra una minuscola cantina, ma una volta aperta la porta si è rivelato un ambiente sorprendentemente ampio, composto da più stanze.
I Gatti Randagi Football Club sono apparsi molte volte su Barganews nel corso degli ultimi decenni (articoli e immagini qui).
Quello che è iniziato come un gruppo di amici interessati al calcio e alle moto si è gradualmente trasformato in una squadra di calcio amatoriale e in un circolo sociale di grande successo e in continua crescita, e ora hanno appena alzato l’asticella ancora un po’.

Gatti Randagi
Il 1991 sarà stato certamente un anno in cui sono accadute molte cose, ma per noi è stato l’anno in cui sono nati i leggendari “Gatti Randagi”. Un po’ di noia nel giocare nelle varie categorie minori (poche), ma soprattutto il desiderio e la passione di altri, spinsero un gruppo di amici di Barga a fondare questa squadra di calcio.
La leggenda vuole che il nome sia stato scelto all’ultimo momento durante il viaggio per l’iscrizione al campionato UISP a Pieve Fosciana. In molti cercano di attribuirsi il merito o la “colpa” di questa scelta, ma tra le varie versioni la più accreditata è quella che attribuisce l’iniziativa a due fondatori storici… gli amici Roberto Conti e Maurizio Poli.
La scelta dei colori sociali bianco e verde a bande orizzontali, invece, viene fatta risalire alla simpatia che la maggior parte dei fondatori, così come gli attuali giocatori, nutre nei confronti del CELTIC GLASGOW; per questo la divisa è e rimarrà verde e bianca finché esisteranno i Gatti Randagi.
Questa simpatia per una squadra scozzese va forse ricercata nella storia di Barga, ovvero nello stretto legame tra la nostra città e la Scozia, una nazione che ha accolto molti dei nostri emigranti in anni difficili per noi.
