International Football Festival Brings Europe to the Piazzas of Barga
Football may have been the reason for the gathering, but the Heritage Cup transformed Barga into something much larger than a sporting venue this weekend.
Visitors arriving in the city were greeted by a sea of colours as teams from Italy, Ireland, Scotland and France filled the piazzas, cafés and narrow streets of the historic centre. More than 150 players travelled to Barga for the second edition of the Heritage Cup, turning the city into an international meeting place where football, friendship and cultural exchange went hand in hand.
Greetings on behalf of the Comune of Barga were delivered by Mayor Caterina Campani, together with Ilaria Del Bianco, President of the Lucchesi nel Mondo Association. Also present was the newly elected Councillor of the Comune of Pontremoli, Massimo Lecchini, who accompanied the Farafulla team. Declan Walsh also addressed the gathering, expressing particular pride in the success of the tournament’s second edition.
Over the course of the weekend, the focus would shift to the football pitches, where six teams competed for the Heritage Cup trophy. Yet for many participants, the lasting memories were likely to come not only from the matches themselves but also from the opportunity to experience life in Barga, meet new friends and strengthen connections that stretched far beyond the ninety minutes of a football match.
With interest already emerging from additional European countries, the Heritage Cup appeared well on its way to becoming one of the most distinctive international sporting events hosted in the Serchio Valle
The teams participating in this year’s competition were the Gatti Randagi, Glenmuir (Ireland), Saint Chamond (France), Strand Celtic (Ireland), Muirend Athletic FC (Scotland) and Farafulla (Pontremoli)
Festival internazionale del calcio porta l’Europa nelle piazze di Barga
Il calcio può essere stato il motivo che ha riunito tutti a Barga, ma questo fine settimana l’Heritage Cup ha trasformato la città in qualcosa di molto più grande di un semplice palcoscenico sportivo.
I visitatori arrivati a Barga sono stati accolti da un mare di colori, mentre squadre provenienti da Italia, Irlanda, Scozia e Francia hanno animato le piazze, i caffè e le strette vie del centro storico. Oltre 150 giocatori hanno raggiunto Barga per partecipare alla seconda edizione dell’Heritage Cup, trasformando la città in un punto d’incontro internazionale dove calcio, amicizia e scambio culturale sono andati di pari passo.
A portare i saluti del Comune di Barga sono stati la sindaca Caterina Campani e la presidente dei Lucchesi nel Mondo, Ilaria Del Bianco. Presente anche il neoassessore del Comune di Pontremoli, Massimo Lecchini, che ha accompagnato la squadra del Farafulla. Non è mancato il saluto di Declan Walsh, che ha espresso particolare soddisfazione per il successo della seconda edizione del torneo.
Nel corso del fine settimana l’attenzione si sposterà naturalmente sui campi di calcio, dove sei squadre si contenderanno il trofeo dell’Heritage Cup. Per molti dei partecipanti, però, i ricordi più belli non nasceranno soltanto dalle partite disputate, ma anche dall’opportunità di vivere la città di Barga, stringere nuove amicizie e rafforzare legami che vanno ben oltre i novanta minuti di una partita di calcio.
Con l’interesse che sta già arrivando da altri Paesi europei, l’Heritage Cup sembra destinata a diventare uno degli eventi sportivi internazionali più originali e caratteristici ospitati nella Valle del Serchio.
