It was first published in 2011 (article here) but this week the guide was presented once again at Villa Libano in its newly edited and updated third version.
Although comparatively diminutive in size, just 40 pages, this small book is nevertheless packed with information about the beautiful mediaeval walled city of Barga (Lucca) Tuscany , Italy.
It focuses on Barga Vecchia, the historic centre and Barga Giardino, the newer area of Barga, including sites of interest, historical information and up-to-date restaurant, shopping and accommodation references.
It features a guided walk from Porta Reale to the Duomo with short italicized narratives of historical fiction woven through the text to recreate the ambience through the ages.
Click on the audioboo at the end of this article for a brief interview with the author of the new guide, Kerry Bell, where she mentions one of the many reasons that prompted her to compile a new guide was the fact that the restaurants now available in this area have reached a level and a diversity that the area now qualifies quite rightly for what she termed, “food tourism”.
