High winds during then night has left a trail of damage across the area.
Workers were out early this morning clearing some of the fallen trees and starting to take account just how many roofs have been damaged.
Many of the streets of Barga are scattered with broken red tiles and as luck would have it, last night was the day in the week when people put out their white bins containing paper ready to be collected this morning – those bins were turned over by the winds and so all of that waste paper is now adding to the desolate scene as the wind continues to blow it around.
The local protezione civile are quoting that during the night gusts of winds were reaching up to 150-170 km/h.
At 11 am this morning, the main telephone service was still out of order and local schools were being shut as heavy gusts of winds was making it dangerous to move around outside as tiles and debris continue to fall to the ground.
So far it is too early to estimate the amount of damage but the social networks this morning are gradually filling up with images of damaged roofs and upturned trees.
