The four leccio – holm oaks, an evergreen southern European oak, with dark green glossy leaves, growing in piazza Beato Michele just below the Duomo have not been trimmed for many years.
Once upon a time they were trimmed into round shapes but not recently – as so they have grown to the point of obscuring the panoramic view across Barga Vecchia towards the mountains.
This week, workers have started to restore that view with some savage potatura of the trees.

Vistors to Barga and residents alike will now have to wait until the spring to get the full affect of this trim.
