Last night at the Rocca di Castruccio in Serravalle, the BargaJazz Orchestra closed the Barga Jazz Festival 2025 with a guest of rare pedigree: American trumpeter Eddie Henderson, in from New York.
Founded in 1986, the orchestra has long been a crucible for emerging talent, sending a steady stream of players into the front ranks of Italian jazz.
Under the baton of current director Mario Raja, it showed exactly why. The ensemble’s tight ensemble work and keen dynamic control gave Henderson ample room to speak – his burnished tone and poised phrasing slotting effortlessly into the band’s architecture.

Ieri sera alla Rocca di Castruccio a Serravalle, la BargaJazz Orchestra ha chiuso il Barga Jazz Festival 2025 con un ospite di raro pedigree: il trombettista americano Eddie Henderson, arrivato da New York.
Fondata nel 1986, l’orchestra è da tempo una fucina di nuovi talenti, inviando un flusso costante di musicisti nelle prime file del jazz italiano.
Sotto la bacchetta dell’attuale direttore Mario Raja, ha mostrato esattamente il perché.
La compattezza dell’ensemble e il fine controllo delle dinamiche hanno lasciato a Henderson ampio spazio per esprimersi – il suo timbro brunito e la fraseggiatura misurata si sono inseriti senza sforzo nell’architettura della band.
