And suddenly it is quiet again.
After eleven consecutive nights of music, food, people and activity, Le Piazzette 2026 has finished and Barga Vecchia has returned to something approaching its normal summer rhythm.
For eleven evenings the historic centre changed character as people moved from one piazzetta to another, following the music, stopping to eat, meeting people in the streets and discovering exhibitions, galleries, museums and other spaces which stayed open during the festival.
No two evenings were quite the same. Different groups arrived each night, different parts of Barga filled and emptied, and sometimes the unexpected became part of the story — including a thunderstorm which brought one evening’s programme to an abrupt halt and, on another night, the arrival of a group who sang a song for peace before quietly disappearing again into the streets.
It would be easy simply to say that Le Piazzette 2026 was a success. Certainly, there were plenty of people in Barga, particularly on the busiest evenings, and once again the festival demonstrated its ability to bring life into almost every corner of Barga Vecchia.
But eleven nights is a long time, and an event which brings thousands of people into a relatively small historic centre inevitably brings problems with it.
There were complaints about the volume of the music. With several amplified performances taking place in and around Barga Vecchia, surrounded by people who actually live there, the question of how loud the music needs to be is one that perhaps deserves some thought before next year.
Traffic was also difficult at times. Large numbers of people arriving in Barga inevitably mean cars, parking problems and congestion, and on the busiest nights getting into and out of the city was not always easy.
There was also the much more basic question of toilets. With thousands of people coming into Barga over the course of the festival, many of them eating and drinking throughout the evening, the number of toilets available was minimal in relation to the size of the crowds. It is perhaps not the most glamorous part of organising a summer festival, but adequate toilet facilities are essential when an event attracts this many people, particularly across eleven consecutive nights.
None of these problems takes away from what happened over those eleven evenings, but they are worth talking about precisely because Le Piazzette attracts so many people. Its success puts considerable pressure on a historic centre which was never designed to accommodate crowds of this size night after night.
And Le Piazzette is not simply a series of concerts. Its real strength is what happens between them: people walking through Barga Vecchia, stopping in a piazza, meeting somebody they have not seen for a while, finding some music they had not intended to hear, or walking into an exhibition they might otherwise have passed.
That happened again in 2026.
There are things which could be looked at and perhaps done differently next time — the sound levels, traffic and parking, and the provision of basic facilities for the crowds who come into Barga. But after eleven nights, dozens of performances and thousands of people passing through the streets, Le Piazzette 2026 can still be judged a positive edition.
And this morning, after all that music, Barga Vecchia is quiet again.

E improvvisamente è tornato il silenzio.
Dopo undici serate consecutive di musica, cibo, gente e movimento, Le Piazzette 2026 si sono concluse e Barga Vecchia è tornata a qualcosa che assomiglia al suo normale ritmo estivo.
Per undici sere il centro storico ha cambiato volto, con le persone che si spostavano da una piazzetta all’altra seguendo la musica, fermandosi a mangiare, incontrandosi per le strade e scoprendo mostre, gallerie, musei e altri spazi rimasti aperti durante la manifestazione.
Non ci sono state due serate uguali. Ogni sera sono arrivati gruppi diversi, diverse zone di Barga si sono riempite e poi svuotate e, qualche volta, anche l’imprevisto è diventato parte della storia — come il temporale che ha interrotto bruscamente il programma di una delle serate o, in un’altra occasione, l’arrivo di un gruppo di persone che ha cantato una canzone per la pace prima di scomparire nuovamente, in silenzio, tra le vie.
Sarebbe facile limitarsi a dire che Le Piazzette 2026 sono state un successo. Di gente a Barga ce n’è stata sicuramente tanta, soprattutto nelle serate più affollate, e ancora una volta la manifestazione ha dimostrato la sua capacità di portare vita praticamente in ogni angolo di Barga Vecchia.
Ma undici serate sono tante, e una manifestazione che porta migliaia di persone all’interno di un centro storico relativamente piccolo porta inevitabilmente con sé anche alcuni problemi.
Ci sono state lamentele per il volume della musica. Con diversi concerti amplificati che si svolgevano dentro e intorno a Barga Vecchia, circondati dalle case di chi nel centro storico ci vive davvero, la questione di quanto debba essere alto il volume è forse qualcosa su cui riflettere prima della prossima edizione.
Anche il traffico, a volte, è stato problematico. L’arrivo di un gran numero di persone a Barga significa inevitabilmente automobili, difficoltà di parcheggio e congestione e, nelle serate più affollate, entrare e uscire dalla città non è stato sempre semplice.
C’è stata poi una questione molto più elementare: i servizi igienici. Con migliaia di persone arrivate a Barga durante la manifestazione, molte delle quali hanno mangiato e bevuto per tutta la serata, il numero di servizi igienici disponibili è stato minimo rispetto alla quantità di pubblico presente. Forse non è l’aspetto più affascinante nell’organizzazione di una manifestazione estiva, ma la disponibilità di un numero adeguato di servizi igienici è essenziale quando un evento richiama così tante persone, soprattutto per undici serate consecutive.
Nessuno di questi problemi toglie valore a ciò che è successo durante quelle undici serate, ma vale la pena parlarne proprio perché Le Piazzette richiamano così tante persone. Il loro successo mette inevitabilmente sotto pressione un centro storico che non è mai stato pensato per accogliere, sera dopo sera, folle di queste dimensioni.
E Le Piazzette non sono semplicemente una serie di concerti. La loro vera forza è ciò che succede tra un concerto e l’altro: persone che attraversano Barga Vecchia, si fermano in una piazza, incontrano qualcuno che non vedevano da tempo, scoprono una musica che non avevano programmato di ascoltare oppure entrano in una mostra davanti alla quale, in un’altra occasione, sarebbero forse passate senza fermarsi.
È successo di nuovo nel 2026.
Ci sono aspetti sui quali si potrebbe riflettere e che forse potrebbero essere gestiti diversamente la prossima volta — il volume della musica, il traffico e i parcheggi, ma anche la disponibilità dei servizi essenziali per le tante persone che arrivano a Barga. Ma dopo undici serate, decine di concerti e migliaia di persone passate per le sue strade, Le Piazzette 2026 possono comunque essere considerate un’edizione positiva.
E questa mattina, dopo tutta quella musica, Barga Vecchia è tornata di nuovo silenziosa.
