Pegnana Punkcakes play Barga Vecchia – fast and loud
Punk is not dead, and the proof was in Piazza Salvo Salvi in Barga Vecchia this evening as the Pegnana Punkcakes turned up the volume for one of the last outdoor concerts of the summer.
The Barga musicians arrived looking suitably unlikely to pass unnoticed: black shirts, red ties, tartan kilts, sunglasses and plenty of attitude. Once they started playing, the appearance made perfect sense.
This was music intended to be fast and loud, delivered at close quarters in one of Barga Vecchia’s small piazzas, with the audience only a few steps away from the band.
The Pegnana Punkcakes brought punk’s combination of energy, humour and controlled disorder into the historic centre, swapping any idea of a quiet late-summer evening for electric guitars, bass, drums and vocals.
The kilts added another ingredient to a band already determined not to take the conventional route — and, after the recent Scottish presence in Barga, tartan once again found itself very much at home in the city, although this time accompanied by considerably more distortion.
There was little separation between performers and audience, and that was part of the point. Piazza Salvo Salvi became the stage, with the music filling the piazza and an enthusiastic crowd responding to the band’s energy.
As the long season of concerts and events in Barga Vecchia begins to draw to a close, the Pegnana Punkcakes provided a rather different soundtrack to the end of summer.
Fast, loud, local and wearing kilts.
Punk is still very much alive in Barga.
Pegnana Punkcakes suonano a Barga Vecchia – veloci e rumorosi
Il punk non è morto, e la prova era questa sera in Piazza Salvo Salvi a Barga Vecchia, dove i Pegnana Punkcakes hanno alzato il volume per uno degli ultimi concerti all’aperto dell’estate.
I musicisti barghigiani si sono presentati con un look decisamente difficile da ignorare: camicie nere, cravatte rosse, kilt scozzesi, occhiali da sole e l’atteggiamento giusto. Una volta iniziato a suonare, tutto aveva perfettamente senso.
Una musica fatta per essere veloce e rumorosa, suonata a distanza ravvicinata in una delle piccole piazze di Barga Vecchia, con il pubblico a pochi passi dalla band.
I Pegnana Punkcakes hanno portato nel centro storico quella combinazione di energia, ironia e caos controllato tipica del punk, sostituendo l’idea di una tranquilla serata di fine estate con chitarre elettriche, basso, batteria e voce.
I kilt hanno aggiunto un altro elemento ad una band che chiaramente non ama seguire la strada convenzionale e, dopo la recente presenza scozzese a Barga, il tartan si è trovato ancora una volta perfettamente a casa in città, anche se questa volta accompagnato da una buona dose di distorsione.
C’era ben poca distanza tra musicisti e pubblico, ed era proprio questo uno degli elementi della serata. Piazza Salvo Salvi è diventata il palcoscenico, con la musica che riempiva la piazza e un pubblico entusiasta che rispondeva all’energia della band.
Mentre la lunga stagione di concerti ed eventi a Barga Vecchia comincia ad avviarsi verso la conclusione, i Pegnana Punkcakes hanno offerto una colonna sonora decisamente diversa per la fine dell’estate.

Il punk a Barga è ancora decisamente vivo.
