There are some jobs in Barga Vecchia where getting the equipment into place is almost as impressive as the work itself.
That was certainly the case this morning beneath the walls of Barga Vecchia, where a large mobile crane arrived and extended its boom high above the car park.
Its first task? To unload another crane.
The second crane was assembled on the ground, ready for the next stage of the operation, while sections of equipment and heavy components were lifted one by one from the waiting lorries.
And then came the real reason for all this heavy machinery.
The equipment had to go up.
With the walls of Barga Vecchia rising directly above the road and no conventional way of bringing such machinery into the area from above, the enormous mobile crane reached over the historic walls, lifting equipment high into the blue September sky before lowering it carefully into position on the other side.
For a while the car park below Barga Vecchia became an extraordinary construction site: articulated lorries, cranes, steel sections, counterweights and workers spread beneath the old stone walls, while a boom reached higher than the trees above.

Una gru, per una gru, per Barga Vecchia
Ci sono lavori a Barga Vecchia in cui riuscire a portare i mezzi sul posto è quasi più spettacolare del lavoro stesso.
È stato certamente così questa mattina sotto le mura del centro storico, dove è arrivata una grande autogru che ha disteso il suo braccio sopra il parcheggio.
Il suo primo compito? Scaricare un’altra gru.
La seconda gru è stata assemblata a terra, pronta per la fase successiva dell’operazione, mentre dai camion venivano sollevati, uno dopo l’altro, componenti e strutture pesanti.
Poi è arrivato il vero motivo di tutto questo movimento di mezzi.
L’attrezzatura doveva andare su.
Con le mura di Barga Vecchia che si innalzano direttamente sopra la strada e senza un modo convenzionale per far arrivare mezzi di queste dimensioni dall’alto, l’enorme autogru ha superato le mura storiche, sollevando l’attrezzatura nel cielo azzurro di settembre per poi calarla con attenzione dall’altra parte.
Per qualche ora il parcheggio sotto Barga Vecchia si è trasformato in un insolito cantiere: camion, gru, strutture metalliche, contrappesi e operai ai piedi delle vecchie mura di pietra, mentre il lungo braccio della gru saliva più in alto degli alberi.
Una soluzione complicata per un problema molto barghigiano: come si porta una gru dentro Barga Vecchia?
A quanto pare, si porta una gru più grande.
