There are few better ways to mark the end of summer in Barga Vecchia than a packed piazza, food and drink on the tables and The Aristodemos playing outside Da Aristo.
And packed it certainly was.
For their end-of-summer festa, The Aristodemos returned to what is effectively their home ground, with virtually every available table and chair occupied and the crowd spreading across the piazza in front of the bar.
The familiar Aristodemos mixture of swing, jazz and Italian songs was joined for the evening by two special guests: Andrea Guzzoletti on trumpet and Renato Marcianò on double bass.
Guzzoletti’s trumpet added another voice to the band’s already colourful sound, moving in and out of the arrangements and joining the musicians at close quarters among the tables. Marcianò’s double bass, meanwhile, gave the group a strong acoustic foundation, squeezed into the doorway alongside the rest of the musicians.
That, of course, is part of the character of an Aristodemos evening at Da Aristo. There is very little separation between musicians and audience. The band occupies doorways, corners and whatever space can be found; people eat and drink only a few feet away, conversations continue between numbers and musicians appear and disappear into the bar.
As daylight faded, the atmosphere changed but the piazza remained full. The lights from the bar and surrounding buildings took over, glasses continued to arrive at the tables and the music carried on into the evening.
And only after the last notes had been played did The Aristodemos finally sit down together inside Da Aristo for something to eat — a well-earned end to the evening.
After a summer in which Barga Vecchia has rarely been short of music, festivals and crowded streets, this felt like a fitting closing chapter.
Not a grand finale on a stage, but something much more Barga: The Aristodemos, Da Aristo, a couple of special guests and a piazza with barely an empty chair.
The Aristodemos are a musical group based in Barga, Tuscany, known for reviving Italian swing music from the 1930s to the 1950s. The band originally formed in 2009 around the local bar, Da Aristo, in Barga Vecchia, and has become a staple in the city’s cultural scene.

The Aristodemos often perform at local events, including impromptu concerts in Barga’s squares, and are celebrated for their lively and engaging shows.
Their performances are not just concerts but cultural experiences that reflect the vibrant artistic community of Barga, a city known for its rich history and connection to the arts.
The band has been particularly active in promoting and preserving the musical heritage of Italy through their distinctive style.
Gli Aristodemos chiudono l’estate da Da Aristo
Ci sono pochi modi migliori per salutare la fine dell’estate a Barga Vecchia: una piazza piena, bicchieri sui tavoli e gli Aristodemos che suonano davanti a Da Aristo.
E piena lo era davvero.
Per la festa di fine estate, gli Aristodemos sono tornati in quello che ormai può essere considerato il loro terreno di casa, con praticamente ogni tavolo e ogni sedia occupati e il pubblico che riempiva la piazza davanti al locale.
Al consueto repertorio degli Aristodemos, tra swing, jazz e canzone italiana, si sono aggiunti per l’occasione due ospiti speciali: Andrea Guzzoletti alla tromba e Renato Marcianò al contrabbasso.
La tromba di Guzzoletti ha aggiunto una voce in più al già colorato suono del gruppo, entrando e uscendo dagli arrangiamenti e suonando a pochi passi dai tavoli. Il contrabbasso di Marcianò ha invece dato una solida base acustica alla formazione, trovando posto sulla soglia del locale insieme agli altri musicisti.
Ed è proprio questo uno degli elementi che caratterizzano una serata degli Aristodemos da Da Aristo. La distanza tra musicisti e pubblico praticamente non esiste. Il gruppo occupa porte, angoli e qualsiasi spazio disponibile; la gente mangia e beve a pochi passi dagli strumenti, le conversazioni continuano tra un brano e l’altro e i musicisti entrano ed escono dal bar.
Con il calare della luce l’atmosfera è cambiata, ma la piazza è rimasta piena. Le luci del bar e degli edifici circostanti hanno preso il posto della luce del giorno, i bicchieri hanno continuato ad arrivare sui tavoli e la musica è andata avanti nella serata.
E solo dopo che erano state suonate le ultime note, gli Aristodemos si sono finalmente seduti insieme all’interno di Da Aristo per mangiare qualcosa: una conclusione più che meritata della serata.
Dopo un’estate in cui a Barga Vecchia non sono certo mancati musica, feste e strade affollate, è sembrato il modo giusto per chiudere un altro capitolo della stagione.
Non un grande finale su un palcoscenico, ma qualcosa di molto più barghigiano: gli Aristodemos, Da Aristo, un paio di ospiti speciali e una piazza dove era difficile trovare una sedia libera.
