San Marino, 2 luglio 2011. Only three special stages to go to close the 39th edition of the San marino Rally. At 3.59 pm drivers will start again. After the 4 special stages of today, 8 in total up to now, all drivers are back in San Marino for regrouping. The young Norvegian driver Mikkelsen is firmly on the lead. He won the first stage of the day. In second position there is an unbridled Travaglia who has won three out of four stages recovering four positions from yesterday. Third place for Batistini-Pinelli while the young San Marino driver Baldacci is now in fifth place.
The drivers say:
1.Mikkelsen: “I’m driving safely. I started with two spare tyres and I have replaced them before the last stage. I’m not attacking, I have to be careful”.
4. Aghini: “Bad. Very, very bad! I drove four stages and tyres still seem to be new. There is no grip”.
5. Batistini: “I found the road surface very loose. I cannot make mistakes. We can keep calm because Travaglia does not get points. We keep driving safely”.
8. Ricci: “I still have problems with the intercooler. The temperature of the engine goes up, thus triggering the protection and therefore I cannot get enough power”.
9. Baldacci: “It’s too dry for my Group N car. Now also Arminen has overtaken me. My attention now is on Ricci”.
11. Travaglia: “ Given my last results I’m still very disappointed for the wrong choice of tyres I made yesterday. There are three stages left, I’m enjoying myself and I attack. Everything can still happen”.The classification after special stage 8:
1. Mikkelsen-Floene (Skoda Fabia S2000) in 1:12’25.9; 2. Travaglia-Scattolin (Ford Fiesta S2000) a 23.1; 3. Batistini-Pinelli (peugeot 207 S2000) a 30.2; 4. Arminen-Lukka (Subaru Impreza) a 41.9; 5.
