Posters have appeared up all over Barga this week with the words, “Buon lavoro presidente” – a thank you call to the new President-elect of the United States, Barack Obama from the Mayor of Barga, Umberto Sereni.
A message was also sent to the President-elect congratulating him and remembering the contribution made in this area by the Afro-American 92nd Division Buffalo Soldiers during 1944 – featured recently in the film “Miracolo a Sant’Anna” by Spike Lee. (article here) The message also mentioned the many Barghigiani who emigrated to the the USA particularly those who set up their homes and businesses in the Chicago area – the hometown of President Barack Obama.
“Il Comune di Barga, che ricorda con affetto i soldati della Buffalo Division che nel 1944 vennero a riportare Libertà e Democrazia, anche a nome dei tanti cittadini che vivono negli Stati Uniti d’America, in particolare a Chicago, invia le più calorose felicitazioni per l’elezione a Presidente degli Stati Uniti d’America e la ringrazia per la grande speranza che ha diffuso su tutto il mondo. Buon lavoro, Presidente”.

Well done America. Sadly I don’t think this could happen in the UK yet. An inspired choice by the American electorate, take a well deserved bow on the global stage y’all.
Again well done and good luck to Mr. Obama in his presidency.
Carlo.
C’mon Frank write it, this is the article we’ve been waiting for.
It like the lights have come on…… all over the world!!! Thank you Barga for thinking of the US as you are, and thank you for your displays of support!
It is very exciting to be in the US at the moment.
