The first snow of the winter fell on Barga during the night. This morning the city woke up to a foggy, grey, slushy, wet and difficult day to move around in. Snow ploughs were out in force and by 8 am most of the main roads were clear of snow and traffic was moving …albeit slowly and most with the aid of snow chains.
This did not help the schools though, as most students decided that some white stuff on the ground was a good enough excuse for not bothering to attend their classes.
It would seem that San Frediano was only a week late this year – there is a phrase used in the area which says ” San Frediano – la neve al monte e al piano” meaning that snow generally falls on the area during the third week in November (article here)

(we have enough here at our home and don’t want any there when we arrive)
one more point….
Snow and ice is acceptable to still remain in the high mountains to the North and East… but that is all…
Ma dai! This is nothing, Jesse. It’s the month of February that we all fear.
