The spring?

As we now moving into the third week of February the lengthening of daylight hours becomes more and more noticeable.

After what has been one of the worst winters in many years with earthquakes, evacuations  and heavy snowfall,  the residents of this area have just about had enough of being stuck in their houses ( those who have not  been evacuated)  and with today’s bright sunshine some people ventured out looking for any sign of the long-awaited for spring.

Is it too early to think that the season are gradually changing in our favour and warmer weather will soon be on the way?

Well,  a quick look at the weather forecast does nothing to brighten the horizon,  with snow and bad weather once again forecast at the end of this week there are  positive signs out there but you do have to look quite carefully.

Believe it or not some of the wild strawberry plants which grow on the  embankments on the hills around Barga  are actually  in flower this week.

It has to be said only in certain places where the sun hits and naturally sheltered from the wind but they are there …  whether or not they survive is another matter.

Some residents of Barga  when asked this morning about their predictions for the coming of spring mentioned how many times they had seen snow at Easter.

Time for maybe another tractor load of wood?
