End of the road for the trees in Giardino

In February we published an article about the fungus threatening the plane trees around Barga (article here) – a month later we wrote another article questioning the timing of the pruning of the plane trees just outside Barga Vecchia (article here) and wondering if they were put at risk of gradually succumbing to the encroaching fungus.

Instead just three months later it’s not the plane trees of Barga vecchia that have had difficulty but the line of Tigli trees down in Barga Giardino which have all apparently become infected and according to experts have now reached a dangerous condition where a strong wind could bring them crashing down on an unsuspecting passer-by.

Unfortunately it now appears that none of them can be saved and all will have to be chopped down shortly.

New trees will be put in their place and hopefully in the short space of time, the Giardino will be back to its peaceful shaded greenery once again.

Nel mese di febbraio abbiamo pubblicato un articolo sul fungo che minaccia i platani intorno a Barga (article here) – un mese dopo abbiamo scritto un altro articolo mettendo in discussione il momento scelto per la potatura dei platani appena fuori da Barga Vecchia (article here) e domandandoci se fossero stati messi a rischio di soccombere gradualmente al fungo dilagante.

Invece, appena tre mesi dopo, non sono i platani di Barga Vecchia ad avere avuto problemi, ma la fila dei tigli giù a Barga Giardino, che a quanto pare sono stati tutti infettati e, secondo gli esperti, hanno ormai raggiunto una condizione pericolosa in cui un forte vento potrebbe farli crollare su un passante ignaro.

Purtroppo ora sembra che nessuno di essi possa essere salvato e che tutti dovranno essere abbattuti a breve.

Nuovi alberi saranno piantati al loro posto e, si spera, in breve tempo il Giardino tornerà al suo tranquillo e ombroso verde di sempre.
