British Ambassador to Italy in Barga
Edward Chaplin CMG, OBE HM Ambassador in Italy was in Barga this evening as guest of honour for the Closing Concert of Operabarga Festival 2007. The concert was dedicated to Peter and Gillan Hunt who started the Operbarga Festival 40 years ago. The Orchestra J Futura di Trento with their conductor Maurizio Dini Ciacci played a selection of music including works by Edward Elgar and Benjamin Britten
Vanessa Benelli Mosell plays Stockhausen
A very different Teatro dei Differenti this evening. The sparsly populated auditorium were treated to some of the most difficult* and also most moving music on the planet as Vanessa Benelli Mosell shared with us two piece of work from the Klavierstucke series - piano works from Karlheinz Stockhausen. The composer has called the Klavierstücke "his drawings" .
Claudia Schaer plays Bach and Bartok
The Canadian violinist Claudia Schaer played this evening in the Chiostro di S.Elisabetta in Barga Vecchia - the last concert in the series "Musica nei Borghi 2007" G.ph Telemann, Fantasia in Si bemolle Magg (click on the link at the bottom of this article to hear Claudia play this Sonata) - Bach , Sonata in La Min (see the small video below) and followed by B. Bartok, Sonata per violino solo.
Teatro dei Differenti per la rassegna "PianoBarga 2007" concerto della pianista ucraina Olga Zdorenko interamente dedicato alla musica russa fra Otto e Novecento, con musiche di Scriabin, Shostakovich e Mussorgsky.

Concerto Ensemble le Musiche in Barga
Continuing a series of concerts by Ensemble Le Musiche, organised in collaboration with Simone Bernardini. Following the incredible effort of performing the entire series of Mozart’s piano concerti last year, this year there will be a more relaxed look at Bach chamber music and works by other composers including Dvorak and Grieg.

Operabarga exhibition of documents
The operabarga festival celebrated its 40th year with an exhibition of photographs, leaflets and posters dating back over all of the 40 years of opera production. Included in the exhibition were original stage and costume designs by Gillian Hunt, the originator of the festival together with her husband Peter. The exhibition was presented by the Istituto Storico Lucchese and opened at the Teatro dei Differenti with the tape being cut by the grandson of Gillian and Peter.
Operabarga Festival 2007 opens
The operabarga festival 2007 started this evening with a concert outside the Duomo. Together with the Mayor of Barga, Umberto Sereni, it has been decided that from now on the Festival will officially begin on the 25th of July each year, this being the day of the patron saint, which should be suitably auspicious. They began this 40th year with a concert reproducing the programme almost to the letter of the Festival’s first season: Arias and Scenes from Rigoletto, Così fan tutte and Fidelio, sung by Francesco Meli and Sabrina Gamberoni, two young singers who are already singing in major theatres.
