Another great wedding in Barga Vecchia yesterday and this time it was an all local affair which spilled out of the Palazzo Pancrazi and filled the whole piazza with smiling people, all enjoying the marriage of Alessandro Biagioni and Lisa Fini. As the bride and groom exited from the town hall they were greeted with a veritable hail of rice thrown by friends, family and well wishers.
The woman who swept up after the ceremony claimed that more than 5 kilos of rice were aimed at the pair. A less traditional but much more colourful symbol of fertility and good luck was waiting for the bride and groom outside as they used a pin to burst a large tethered balloon releasing many smaller red and white helium filled balloons which then swept up in the air to the applause of the gathered crowd below.
