The tape is cut, the band plays a rousing tune, the Mayor marches into the City at the head of the procession – yes, the Festa delle Piazzette 2007 has started. For the next ten days the people of Barga celebrate the end of the winter and the joy of just being outside in the open. The piazzas and squares in Barga Vecchia become more or less open living rooms where people mix, mingle, greet old friends and enjoy just staying together.
