The massed ranks of Saxophonia Ensemble of the Capannori Civic School of Musica directed by Giancarlo Rizzardi were lined up this evening at the Barga Jazz Club for a concert that sometimes became almost a wall of sound. Under the watchful eye and baton of Jack Rizzardi the saxes, clarinet, trumpet and rhythm section of Saxophonia ran through a collection of up tempo and upbeat standard jazz numbers.
Some interesting numbers this evening, as the group had more time to experiment due to the non-appearance of their regular vocalist. Saxophonia, for some reason, always seem to work much better as a coherent force when playing outside in piazzas.(article here from their performance in Sassi this summer) Inside the confines of the Barga Jazz Club their sound can sometimes be a little overpowering. Nevertheless, a good night entertainment at the club.
