The first Festa della Corsonna subtitled “Giochi di une volta” was held this afternoon down by the Corsonna river which flows past the Mocchia Osteria of Lorenzo. In fact it was the self same Lorenzo who had organised the event which included, tug of war, sack races for the kids and speed tree trunk sawing for those who knew what they were doing with the vicious toothed two man wood saw.He was even there taking part in half of the events as he kept up a constant banter while he distributed bomboloni, (Italian doughnuts), water for the thirsty and wine -- lots of wine -- buckets of wine -- for those who’s thirst was bordering on the biblical and at the end of the events -- gold medals for the victors.
Out of the 15 pairs taking part, the winning team of Baldacci and Federico P beat them all hands down with a clear 1 second margin managing to cut the tree trunk in 21.05 seconds.
It would appear to be a golden week for the Baldacci family as Antonio’s gold medal this afternoon joins David Baldacci’s gold St.Christopher medal which was awarded to the American writer 5 days ago. (article here)
The team who took the longest -- taking over a over a minute to cut through the log will NOT be named but just let it be known that one member of that team was wearing a short tie and appeared to be giving orders to some of his staff while he was (badly) sawing away with his team mate.
