Tony Phillips and his Electrical Reverence

tony-phillips-barga-003

The artist Tony Phillips from Filecchio, who has featured on barganews many times over the years (article from 2005  here) was recently in Barga with some of his recent work.
Tony for most of his working life has been working on a series of drawings and paintings all carrying the same title or banner – The Guide to the 20th Century. These new drawings use semi religious symbols and metaphors in an attempt to make us look back at our selves as historical animals and belonging to a different age. A series of shrine like images featuring what could be called  “gods of electricity or of the nuclear age”.

Details from some of his latest images

The drawings on show today will shortly be exhibited in Liverpool, England at the University Victoria Gallery and Museum with their collection of electrical objects from the early 20th century.

Click on the link below to hear the short interview (in English) with Tony as he tells us some of the background behind the making of these images.

  2. If only I had some serious money to encapsulate your vision.I have the will as you know.I also have the vision. I also have that irreverent streak to put you in pride of place in the Amy Tate Gallery (Sir Henry Tates brothers daughter aka my great grandmother!) just calling it Amy Tate will create the storm in the worlds press that brings the punters through our doors at £4 per mark. Just need a few hundred K to build some walls & put in some concrete! I have downloaded the podcast (which is brilliant) and saved it and Siona`s poem as mp3 files.Who should I ask if i wanted to add them to the jukebox on my web site http://www.mortimerscrossmill.com ? (By the way check out this web site.It cost just £20 & includes an online shop you could sell your prints in & the customer pays with pay pal!)
