The travelling art exhibition, will rotate twelve panels through different public and private spaces throughout the province or Lucca, during the period of one year.
The project brings culture from places outside traditional art, into the places of commerce and industry, and emphasizes the positive values of creativity, professionalism and artistic work, through a shared vision.
The work of Sandra Rigali shows women at the centre of the universe. Her nudes draw their inspiration from women: they are the externalization of the direct knowledge that the artist has of her “being.” The expressionist and strong lines of her figures blend and soften into the narrative of her interiors and still-life, capped by the intensity of colour and motion that dominate her landscapes.
The artist, who for years has espoused the importance of artistic opportunity for women in the province of Lucca, considered titling the exhibition “A Room of Her Own,” in reference to the famous work “A Room of One’s Own” by the writer Virginia Woolf.
For the painter, the room is the place needed for creativity, for mental and physical freedom, including economic success; a private space to let time pass and to dream. “These paintings are a journey, leaving my room to visit others”, explains Sandra Rigali.
The project will culminate with an exhibition of all 12 paintings in a single institutional space. Here the itinerarte project will conclude with the auctioning of one work. The proceeds will be donated to the province Associazione Onlus Lucca, which supports women who have suffered violence.
Beginning in January 2010, the sponsors housing works by the painter Sandra Rigali, will have copies of a calendar-catalogue for distribution.
In addition to the project’s commercial value, is its social and cultural value: the aim is to bring people closer to art and culture through use of less institutional spaces, and at the same time support the social structures that assist in women in crisis.
From a commercial perspective, the project sponsors will gain greater visibility through the distribution of over 3000 calendars-catalogue, the works of art on display that will enrich their environments, and the opportunity to host micro-themed arts and cultural events.
The event will be publicized through various media channels (newspapers, magazines, web etc.), as well as posters and leaflets explaining the route, and including a map of the exhibition.
